Since it's FREE. I JUST decided to get Linux working and I'll have to say that it's FAR FAR FAR Superior to Wine from www.winehq.org
Infact, there's no competition between the two. CodeWeaver's Crossover really works wonders and I have to say it is hands down the best way to get practically any windows application to work on Mac/Linux. Not to mention that not only do you get the application for free thanks to Bush, you get free Tech Support!

oh yea, it's not gonna run SS just like that. You will need to do some tweaking to make SS work

Well, It'll get the job done whether there's tweaking required or not. I can't really download anything but a free trial at the moment, however I'll be sure to shove your words right back in your mouth if this works without doing some tweaking because i'm getting tired of your negativity on my threads.

A different point I'd like to make.. Why would you run something like Wine when you can get a commercialized version for Free that offers technical support, guarantees support for applications, and has many many many improvements over the Open-Source version because it's commercialized.
It's like choosing to run Open Office when you can run Microsoft Office legally FOR FREE!

Are you illiterate? I said I USE THIS TO PLAY SS. I took this thing apart on OS X. I sat a whole day in irc talking to it's Devs. It's basically wine in a shell that installs easier and may have easier tweaking options... hell if you run a window it will spell WINE in damn bar.
Anyway, once you start tweaking your bottle settings it's all wine...
Also, there is no way to run SS without mircosoft's dinput8.dll
And microsoft office is pornography. It's not even compatible with itself. Not to mention excel still LIES, some calculations don't work. And if you want to get anything usable out of a *.doc file you need to jump though hoops to clean out all the shit you get along with the text you need.
Also, to illustrate MY point: crossover on mac
PS. I have been using crossover since version 5 and I know exactly what it is and how it works so if you really wanna argue with me then go right ahead.

The fact that you said THIS IS WINE as a 2nd point makes me think that you use Wine instead of Crossover which contradicts your first statement and so it does make me think of
Now can we please get something constructive going? I'm not a huge fan of how we get an argument every single time you post in my thread, and i'm pretty sure neither are the people that are reading it. Maybe something along the lines of 'CrossOver is good stuff and it's actually being offered for free now! Wow, Thanks for the post because I've been using it since version 5 and paying for it, but now maybe I can put this $ towards something constructive'

Also, it IS wine.
Crossover is just a user friendly shell for the wine engine.
And yea completely agreed it works. It has some bugs though. A few minor ones, a few irritating ones...
But the FPS is constant. Even in systems full of slaves and shit it doesn't lag. In fact only time I had the well-known SS lag cause of effects was around larry when he shot his rad cone. That thing is horribly man.
Also, it makes some effects look nicer actually. Cleaner... and those little gay butterflies in lunacy no longer lag you with their engine trails.

I understand that it's Wine, but as mentioned it's a commercialized version so there's more support for it, it has people working on the coding, and it's more tweaked than the open source version because it's commercialized, and because of this it works better than Wine in most cases as the benchmark http://www.wine-reviews.net/cxgames-lin ... -0958.html illustrates. SS does lag because of effects, although i've yet to see a Rad Cone even once currently, but so far my computer has dealt with most effects while maintaining a steady Max FPS so we'll see how this turns out. Glad to know we can finally agree on something

Quant any idea on how hard it would be to run on free bsd then mabe talk abit about the list of tweeks you had to do to get it to run? I would love to get my freebsd box working again.

Just for giggles, would it be possible to load Linux on a second hard drive and stick it in next to the windows?

You can duel boot windows and linux depending on the flavor on the same hard drive you can also test a version of unix by using knoppix which is available at knopper.net if I remember right.

Hmmmm.. without specifically quoting any of the above:
I installed wine with no problems on ubuntu. I installed SS using the wine installer by double clicking on the desktop.
The one tweak I needed to make originally was the dinput.dll fix.
I can run SS 3 times on three different desktops (on one computer) with only slight lag. 'two boxing' for no lag at all.
Only issue I've never got around to fixing on my wine version is when some popup boxus will appear 'behind' the main window, and lock up the interface. This hasn't caused me deaths yet, but came close to triggering a GSA once.
No need for additional wrap programs to slow my experience down.
