Legends of Aria is an innovative new MMORPG from the lead creators of Ultima Online that plans to do away with MMO tropes of classes, levels and grinding, instead allowing for open ended character development as you exploring a living virtual world where your actions have real consequences.

In most MMOs quests can be repeated over and over again with no real consequences other than your stats go up and you get some new loot. Legends of Aria looks set to address this issue by forging a living virtual world where your actions can have a dramatic effect – for instance, stealing a dragon’s egg today may be the reason the dragon is attacking your town tomorrow. It’s also a world that feels alive – with dynamic behavioral systems and NPC’s that go about their daily lives instead of standing still and waiting for you to come along.
Legends of Aria’s character development system also seems like a breath of fresh air. Instead of being pigeonholed into classes, you can learn any skills you want via training, tomes or other players who have already mastered them, then you’ll earn new abilities by engaging in activities related to those skills. Once you reach the level cap you can still learn new skills, but you’ll need to deactivate some already mastered skills to do so.
Legends of Aria has an an impressive array of other features too, including animal training, skill based combat, PvP modes (including Battle Royale), boss battles, factions, guilds and crafting. It also allows players to run their own ’shard’ with no additional cost – allowing them to run and moderate their own game world with custom rule sets that thousands of players can play on. The amount of customization in these shards is incredible – allowing the moderators to create new story lines, create new skills, write new AI for creatures and much more.
